Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, hours after it was passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Fubara assented to the bill on Thursday at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, describing the appropriation as a “breath of fresh air.”

The budget, titled “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” was passed earlier on Thursday by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly after lawmakers reviewed some provisions in the governor’s original proposal.

The bill was unanimously passed by 26 lawmakers during the Assembly’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt.

According to the Assembly, the approved spending plan will cover the fiscal year ending on September 2, 2027.

The budget is expected to be funded through ₦487.6 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), ₦936.052 billion in Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) receipts, an opening and closing balance of ₦48 billion, proposed internal loans of ₦50 billion, and ₦25 billion from the sale of government assets.

Sectoral allocations include ₦262 billion for agriculture, ₦625.8 billion for the economic sector, ₦65 billion for law and justice and ₦435.4 billion for the social sector.

Speaking after signing the bill, Fubara said the budget would usher in a new phase of development and cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

The governor also expressed his readiness to work with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to advance the development of the state.
