First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to move beyond rhetoric and translate the spirit of the 2026 International Day of Charity into concrete actions that support vulnerable members of society.

Mrs. Tinubu, in her message to mark the occasion, described charity as more than simply giving, stressing that it involves extending a helping hand, restoring hope and supporting people in need.

She said the International Day of Charity serves as a reminder of the importance of kindness, compassion and generosity in building a more caring and inclusive society.

According to her, every act of kindness, regardless of its size, has the potential to make a meaningful difference in another person's life.

The First Lady therefore called on Nigerians to embrace giving and volunteerism, particularly in support of less privileged members of society, saying collective action remains critical to reducing poverty and strengthening communities.

“Through our collective action, we can help reduce poverty, strengthen our communities, and ensure that no one is left behind,” she said.

The message comes as Mrs. Tinubu continues to champion social-welfare interventions, including the zonal rollout of the National Community Food Bank Programme in the South-South region.

The programme is targeted at pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under the age of six.

During her visit to Calabar on Friday, the First Lady also announced cash assistance for victims of the fire incident at Calabar Mall as well as support for women’s groups, highlighting the administration’s emphasis on combining advocacy for social welfare with tangible assistance to vulnerable Nigerians.
