The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities, disloyalty and conduct the party described as inimical to its integrity and discipline.

Egunjobi and Yusuf were former APC members who contested the party’s primary elections for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II, respectively, during the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process but failed to secure the party’s tickets.

According to the Lagos APC, rather than accept the outcome of the party’s internal process and remain with the platform under which they contested, the two subsequently obtained tickets from another political party, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

In a statement on Wednesday, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, described their alleged conduct as a repudiation of the obligations of party membership and an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty.

Ojelabi said the party regarded their purported resignations from the APC as a belated attempt to avoid disciplinary consequences.

“The party’s position is that membership of the APC cannot be treated as a convenient political garment to be worn during a primary and discarded immediately after an unsuccessful outcome,” he said.

According to him, the APC is governed by rules, regulations and constitutional obligations, adding that members seeking elective positions must pursue their ambitions within the framework of the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws.

“A member who loses an internal contest is expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law, not to undermine the party by seeking an alternative platform within the same electoral cycle,” Ojelabi said.

He added that the party had invoked the relevant provisions of Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.

Ojelabi said their conduct was particularly significant in the context of the 2026 electoral framework, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had emphasised compliance by political parties and political actors with the Electoral Act 2026 and relevant electoral regulations.

“The Lagos APC therefore wishes to make it abundantly clear that Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr. Azeez Yusuf are no longer members of the APC.

“Consequently, neither individual has the authority to speak for, represent, negotiate on behalf of, or otherwise transact any business with any person, organisation or institution in the name of the Lagos State APC,” he said.

The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of the duo’s changed status and refrain from dealing with either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the Lagos APC.

Ojelabi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules.

“The right to contest an election does not confer the right to sabotage the party after losing its nomination process,” he said.

“The APC is a party of rules. Its tickets are contested, its decisions are respected and its integrity will be protected.”

He added that the Lagos APC would continue to take steps to preserve the discipline, cohesion and credibility of the party ahead of the forthcoming elections.
