The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is searching for a man who allegedly beat a toddler in a video that has gone viral on social media.

The video, shared on X by @NigeriaStories on Wednesday, shows a shirtless man wearing green athletic shorts repeatedly flogging the child on the head and body with what appears to be a charger cable.

The beating knocks the child onto a tiled floor, where the toddler cries out in distress.

The man allegedly continues flogging the child, who uses her hands to shield her head from the cable while crying on the floor.

The man could also be heard speaking aggressively to the child and saying, “Ori ẹ o ma pe,” a popular Yoruba expression often used to suggest “knocking sense into someone.”

He then bends down and forces the crying child back to her feet.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation across social media, with many Nigerians calling for the man's immediate identification and arrest.

Reacting to the viral video on Wednesday, NAPTIP said child abuse would not be tolerated.

“We have noted the viral video and are working with relevant security agencies to identify, locate, and prosecute the perpetrator to the full extent of the law,” the agency said via its official X handle.

NAPTIP urged anyone with useful information that could assist in identifying or locating the man to contact the agency through direct message, email at [email protected], or the shortcode 627.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that anyone responsible for such acts faces the law.
