The Ogun State Government has commenced a comprehensive pre-accreditation, evaluation and monitoring exercise across Government Technical Colleges (GTCs), in the State as part of efforts to ensure their readiness for the 2026 National Skills Qualification (NSQ) assessment.

The exercise, coordinated by the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), focused on assessing the level of compliance of the colleges with required standards and identification of areas that required improvement ahead of the national assessment.

 Speaking during the monitoring exercise, the Acting Executive Secretary of OGSTVEB, Mrs. Mojisola Adenowo, said that the exercise was designed to ensure that Government Technical Colleges were adequately prepared to meet the requirements for accreditation and assessment.

According to her, it was also aimed at ensuring that each institution conducts a proper self-assessment using the Ogun State Skills Qualification Board (OGSQB), self-assessment checklist, with emphasis on institutional readiness, documentation, learning environment as well as industry relevance.

She explained that the monitoring team was assessing key areas including the organogram and administrative structure of the colleges, infrastructure, school environment and facilities, learners' records, school calendar, staff information and statutory records, among others.

Mrs. Adenowo, noted that particular attention would be given to the admission register, school reports and other relevant institutional records, stressing that proper documentation was essential to effective school administration and the accreditation process.

She further disclosed that the exercise was also examining the colleges' industry linkage arrangements, including Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), with relevant industries and organisations.

The Acting Executive Secretary, noted further that, strong industry partnerships remained critical to technical and vocational education, as they would provide learners with opportunities to acquire practical experience and develop competencies that aligned with workplace requirements.

She said the monitoring exercise would enable the Board to identify gaps earlier and provide the necessary guidance and support to the colleges before the commencement of the 2026 NSQ assessment.

Mrs. Adenowo, emphasised that the goal was not merely to prepare the colleges for an assessment, but to strengthen the overall quality of technical and vocational education in the State and ensure that learners acquire competencies that were relevant to the demands of the modern labour market.

She therefore, urged Principals and staff of the Government Technical Colleges to take the self-assessment process seriously, ensure that all required records were properly updated and readily available and address identified gaps within the stipulated period.
