The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka, has outlined his blueprint for strengthening the State public service, with emphasis on continuity, digitalisation, staff welfare, improved revenue generation, security and a conducive working environment.

He made this known at the 2026 half-year budget performance appraisal of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government at the State House of Assembly, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Saka, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun, for his appointment. He also extended his appreciation to the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for their support, assuring that his tenure would build on the achievements of his predecessors in sustaining the tradition of excellence in the State public service.

The Head of Service, highlighted the establishment of a dedicated cadre for personnel involved in emergency and ambulance-related health services, noting that the initiative had been carried out between Lagos and Ogun State before the National Council on Establishment secured the necessary approval.

He also disclosed the introduction of bi-monthly environmental sanitation within the State Secretariat to promote a cleaner and more conducive working environment.

 According to him, four Environmental Ambassadors had been appointed to encourage compliance, with commendation letters to form part of their assessment during promotion exercises.

Saka, also said, he had charged accounting officers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies to improve revenue generation in line with the Governor’s directive, while efforts towards digitalising personnel records were being intensified.

 He explained that a committee comprising relevant stakeholders, including the Office of Service Matters, Bureau of Establishments and Training and the Civil Service Commission, had been inaugurated to drive the digitalisation of personnel records in the State public service.

On security, the Head of Service said measures had been introduced to ensure proper identification of civil servants, while vehicle tallies had been introduced to regulate access to the State Secretariat, while urging civil servants and members of the public to comply with the measures to avoid unnecessary embarrassment.

He further highlighted government’s palliative support for civil servants in response to rising costs, as well as the recent Civil Service Week, which featured  lectures and symposium involving notable personalities. A health walk was also introduced during the week to promote workers’ physical well-being, alongside other initiatives aimed at improving productivity and staff welfare.

He acknowledged the Civil Service Commission, under the leadership of its Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, for taking the lead in implementing key aspects of his blueprint, particularly in the areas of digitalisation of records and the promotion of staff wellness through the health walk initiative.

Responding, House Committee Chairman on Establishment and Public Service Matters,  Hon. Tella commended Saka for the achievements recorded within his short period in office and urged him to sustain the momentum, particularly in addressing pending issues affecting the Public Service.

The engagement was attended by representatives of key services, including the Civil Service Commission, Office of Service Matters, Bureau of Establishments and Training, and State Pension Bureau.
