The Cross River State Police Command has released a photograph of an unidentified woman found dead at a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, as investigations continue into the suspected homicide.

In a statement on Wednesday, the command said the development was an update to its September 8, 2026, report on the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased had lodged at the hotel with a male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Police said efforts were ongoing to identify the woman, locate the male guest and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

The command appealed to members of the public who recognise the woman or have information about her identity, relatives or associates to contact the police.

The receptionist who was on duty when the incident occurred also remains in police custody and is assisting with the investigation. Police said he is being questioned about the admission of the guests and events leading up to the discovery of the deceased.

However, the command stressed that the receptionist's detention does not amount to a determination of guilt, adding that any further action would be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and objectively.

According to the command, investigators are working to establish the identity of the deceased, determine the circumstances of her death, locate the male guest and establish the roles, if any, of other persons connected to the incident.
