As Public Primary Schools across Ogun State resumed for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session, the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has reminded teachers to combine academic instruction with moral education.

The Chairman of the Board, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, stated this during a monitoring exercise at the Local Government Primary School, Ipara, in Remo North Local Government Area of the State, urging the teachers to nurture learners with love, discipline and positive values that would contribute to their overall development.

Ifede, described the turnout of learners as impressive, particularly at the schools visited, urging parents to release their children and wards for the new academic session to ensure their full participation in teaching and learning activities.

The SUBEB boss charged Headteachers and teachers to redouble their efforts towards improving learning outcomes, stressing that the Board's vision was to ensure that every learner acquired the ability to read, write and communicate effectively.

He urged teachers in the lower primary classes to intensify the use of phonics as a foundational literacy strategy, while encouraging those in other classes to promote reading and debating activities to build learners' confidence and communication skills.

He also called on headteachers to embark on aggressive enrolment drives and strengthen partnerships with education stakeholders, including Old Students' Associations and School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), to complement government efforts in providing infrastructure and improving enrolment in public schools.

He further urged schools to maintain clean, attractive and conducive learning environments that would encourage parents to enrol their children and wards in public schools.

Appreciating the Board for the monitoring exercise, the Headteacher of St. Barnabas Anglican Primary School, Illisan-Remo, Mrs. Esther Adefala and Mrs. Fatimah Awosanya of Wesley Primary School, Irolu, expressed gratitude to SUBEB, noting that the exercise would motivate teachers and learners to improve their commitment to academic activities.

They pledged to intensify supervision in order to ensure improved teaching and learning outcomes in their respective schools.

Other schools visited during the exercise included United Primary School, Ilara Remo, and United Primary School, Akaka, Isara Remo; St John Anglican Primary School 1 and II, Kuto, Abeokuta; Mrs Funmilayo Kuti Nursery and Primary School, Isabo; Nawair-ud-deen Nursery and Primary School, Isale-Ijeun, Abeokuta, among others.
