ABUJA - Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has explained the reasons behind the political support expressed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Soludo described the gathering as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history, citing the participation of political stakeholders from different party backgrounds.
According to a report by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Soludo’s address focused on cross-party cooperation, economic policy and the relationship between political leadership and national development.
The governor, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was rooted in shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
Soludo also drew attention to the participation of governors at the gathering, describing the presence of approximately 31 state governors as evidence of broad political alignment.
However, the participation of political figures at the event should not be interpreted as a formal endorsement by every governor or as a reflection of the views of all Nigerian voters.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also discussed the economic philosophy underpinning the Tinubu administration’s policies.
Drawing on his background as an economist, Soludo described the administration’s approach as pragmatic progressivism, suggesting that the President’s economic decisions reflected a willingness to confront structural challenges rather than postpone difficult policy choices.
According to him, the administration inherited an economy facing significant pressures and introduced reforms aimed at addressing longstanding structural problems and laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth.
Soludo argued that Tinubu’s understanding of public finance had influenced the direction of the reforms, adding that the administration’s decisions should be assessed within the context of the economic challenges confronting Nigeria.
While supporters of the administration have pointed to its macroeconomic adjustments and reform initiatives as signs of progress, critics have questioned the pace at which the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians.
Soludo maintained that the administration’s approach demonstrated a commitment to tackling longstanding economic challenges and creating conditions for future growth.
His participation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council inauguration also drew attention to the relationship between party affiliation and political cooperation, given his membership of APGA.
The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team noted that Soludo’s remarks placed economic policy and institutional performance at the centre of discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election.
The forum also emphasised the role of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information about public-sector performance.
