The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, has identified access to quality education as a top priority of his legislative agenda if elected to the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
Taiwo, the immediate past Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, made this known during the concluding phase of his Back-to-School Initiative, which involved the donation of exercise books, school sandals and socks to pupils and students in selected schools across Yewa South Local Government Area.
He explained that the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on parents, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds, and equip learners with essential materials to support their education. The intervention also underscored the importance of practical support in helping children attend school with confidence and participate meaningfully in learning.
The programme, which began in Ipokia Local Government Area about a month earlier, was extended to Yewa South in fulfilment of his promise to reach schools across the two local government areas that constitute the federal constituency.
As part of the intervention, Taiwo pledged to provide new school uniforms for all pupils of Jaja Community Primary School, in addition to exercise books, school sandals and socks. Such support can help meet immediate needs while allowing parents to devote their limited resources to other essential household expenses.
He further explained that the school visits provided an opportunity to engage with educators and assess the institutions’ immediate needs, including challenges associated with access roads. He promised to pursue the identified concerns through the appropriate government agencies and legislative channels if elected to the House of Representatives.
His proposed focus on education reflects the wider relationship between learning and community development. Access to quality education equips young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pursue opportunities, improve their livelihoods and contribute to society.
Taiwo commended Governor Abiodun’s administration for its investments in education and infrastructure, stressing that sustained development required effective collaboration between the state and federal governments.
He noted that having the same political party in government at both levels could strengthen cooperation and help facilitate developmental projects for the constituency.
Also speaking, the APC candidate for the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bayo Orebiyi, commended Taiwo for the initiative, describing it as a timely response to the economic challenges confronting many families.
Orebiyi emphasised that investment in education remained a fundamental responsibility of government, adding that access to affordable, quality education would occupy a prominent place in his legislative agenda.
In her remarks, the Principal of Itolu Community High School, Mrs. Mobolaji Oluwakemi Adegoke, expressed appreciation to Taiwo for the donation of exercise books, school sandals and socks.
She assured him that teachers would complement the gesture through dedicated teaching and sustained efforts to improve students’ learning outcomes.
The schools visited during the exercise were Yewa South Primary School, Ijana; Itolu Community High School, Ilaro; Jaja Community Primary School; Yewa South Local Government School, Awuko Alagbon; Yewa South Primary School, Elekute; Yewa High School, Ajilete; and St. James Primary School, Oke Odan, all in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
