Bandits Abduct Passengers, Vandalise Vehicles Along Zamfara Road - The Alternative News

Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked commuters along the Magami–Dansadau–Gusau road in Zamfara State, vandalising vehicles and destroying travellers’ belongings, with several people feared abducted.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the attackers blocked the road, which connects communities in Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas, disrupting movement along the route.

“ALERT: Bandits attacked commuters along the Magami–Dansadau–Gusau road in Maru and Gusau LGAs, Zamfara State. MANY people are feared abducted and vehicles damaged. Driving this road needs extra caution NOW,” one of the sources reportedly told SaharaReporters.

Another report on the incident indicated that armed men had again blocked the Magami–Dansadau road, damaging vehicles and destroying belongings carried by travellers.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over the safety of motorists and passengers using the route, which has experienced repeated attacks by armed groups.

The incident comes amid renewed threats by bandits to attack vehicles travelling along the Dansadau–Gusau road.

On Wednesday, reports emerged that armed men had threatened to burn about 250 vehicles using the road, raising fears among commercial drivers, traders and other commuters who depend on the route for transportation.

The reported threat has further heightened concerns about the ability of security agencies to protect travellers along the highway, where repeated attacks have exposed road users to kidnapping, violence and destruction of property.

In May 2026, suspected bandits reportedly ambushed commuters along the Magami–Dansadau road, with several travellers said to have been killed and others abducted. The incident highlighted the persistent security challenges facing communities and road users in the area.

The Magami–Dansadau–Gusau corridor is an important route connecting rural communities to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital. However, repeated attacks have made travelling along the route increasingly dangerous.

SaharaReporters said it contacted the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, for comments on the latest attack and the reported abductions, but he had not responded to enquiries as of the time of filing the report.

Travellers have been urged to exercise caution when using the affected route amid growing concerns over their safety.
