Cristiano Ronaldo Suspended, Faces Disciplinary Action - The Alternative News

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been provisionally suspended by the country’s football authorities following the opening of a disciplinary investigation into his departure from the national team’s training camp after a reported disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.

The Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Council announced the decision on Saturday, October 10, saying the proceedings would determine whether the circumstances surrounding the forward’s departure warranted further disciplinary action.

The case has been classified as urgent, while details of the investigation will remain confidential until the proceedings are concluded.

According to Portuguese public broadcaster RTP, the federation’s disciplinary body decided on October 9 to initiate proceedings against Ronaldo based on information submitted on October 7.

The case was subsequently referred to the federation’s Disciplinary Investigation Commission on Saturday.

The provisional suspension does not constitute a final verdict, and the federation has yet to announce the ultimate punishment the 41-year-old footballer could face.

Ronaldo reportedly left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 30 following a disagreement with Jesus over his role in the national team.

The dispute followed Portugal’s Nations League match against Norway on September 27, when Ronaldo was named among the substitutes but was not introduced despite warming up during the game.

The forward subsequently claimed that the coach had broken an agreement concerning his playing time.

According to Ronaldo, Jesus had agreed that he would sit out Portugal’s matches against Norway and Denmark to manage his fitness but later informed him that he would play for approximately 30 minutes against Norway.

Ronaldo said he was disappointed after warming up during the match without being brought onto the pitch.
He subsequently left the national team’s camp ahead of the fixture against Denmark.

The incident attracted widespread attention because of Ronaldo’s status as Portugal’s captain and one of the country’s most celebrated footballers.

Following the controversy, Ronaldo reportedly apologised to his teammates and Portuguese supporters, acknowledging that his decision to leave the camp was a mistake.

He also indicated that he was prepared to accept any punishment imposed by the football federation.

“I should not have done it. The responsibility is exclusively mine,” Ronaldo said in a statement quoted by sports media.

The forward also maintained that he remained committed to representing Portugal and was willing to return to the national team after serving any disciplinary sanction.

His apology came amid growing questions about his relationship with Jesus and his future role in the squad.

Despite the controversy, Ronaldo has not announced his retirement from international football.
