The Ogun State Government has engaged all the 20 Local Government Areas on the 2027-2029 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), to achieve credible fiscal framework and prioritise resource allocations for the needs of the communities.
Commissioner Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Hon. Dapo Okubadejo, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, made this known to the Local Governments Chairmen and their Management Personnel at the 2027-2029 MTEF Consultation, in Abeokuta.
Okubadejo said the consultation was statutory under the State’s Fiscal Responsibility Law 2020 (as Amended), where Section 12 and Sub-Section 1 mandated the consultation with all Local Governments in preparation of the State’s MTEF, while the Section 18, Sub-Section 1 required the State to give necessary support for the preparation of the MTEF at the Local Government Areas level.
He said as the 2027-2029 MTEF’s preparation has progressed, all evolving economic and political indicators in the environment must be put into consideration for proper planning to implement disciplined expenditure.
“The credibility of the framework would depend on the provided data, assumptions and priorities that exist in the final year of the current administration, thereby consolidating on the gains of the State’s Fiscal Management Reforms”, he explained.
The Commissioner encouraged them to transform the engagement into realistic revenue strategies and prioritise expenditure, for viable projects that would render measurable service delivery to people’s needs.
“We must use this final State MTEF and LGA Consultation to reinforce the endurance in process, strengthen fiscal responsibility, improve planning and support more developments in all communities”, Okubadejo said.
In his message, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, said apart from the clarity of MTEF purposes, there should be stronger alignment between policy priorities, fiscal strategy and budget preparations, in order to achieve more sustainable development impacts across the State.
