The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade, has been honoured with an Award of Outstanding Service by Quick Legal Magazine in recognition of his contributions to the administration of justice and legal development in the State.
The award was presented to the Attorney-General at an event which took place at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta where legal practitioners, stakeholders and other distinguished guests gathered honour and celebrate the Hon. Commissioner in recognition of his service to the state’s justice sector.
Giving an introduction about the organisation presenting the award, the Editor-in-Chief of Legal Lead Publication Limited; Publishers of the Quick Legal Magazine and former Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ijebu-Ode Branch, Mr. Moruff Balogun, said, the Quick Legal Magazine was an innovative publication aimed to showcase achievements of lawyers who had contributed immensely to the legal profession, coupled with columns that provided legal advice and keeping in the archives distinguished personalities who had are still contributing to the development of the legal profession.
He therefore retorted that this particular award was a reflection of the Attorney-General’s contributions to the legal profession and his efforts at addressing some of the legal challenges confronting residents of Ogun State.
Balogun, particularly commended Ogungbade, for his intervention in the fight against land grabbing in the State, describing the issue as one that required sustained legal and institutional action.
According to him, the Attorney-General had demonstrated commitment to using the law and the machinery of government to address cases of unlawful acquisition of land.
“We believe that recognition should be given to individuals who are contributing to the development of the justice system and the protection of people through the effective application of the law,” he said.
Balogun, noted that the award was also intended to encourage the Attorney-General and other public officers in the justice sector to sustain their efforts toward improving access to justice and upholding the rule of law.
He urged stakeholders in the legal profession to continue supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the justice system and protecting citizens’ rights.
In his acceptance speech, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade, expressed appreciation to Quick Legal Magazine, Legal Lead Publication Limited and members of the legal profession for the recognition.
Ogungbade, described the award as an encouragement to continue serving the people of Ogun State with dedication, professionalism and commitment to justice.
He said the recognition was not only personal but also a reflection of the collective efforts of officials and stakeholders working within the state’s justice system.
According to him, the administration of justice required the cooperation of government institutions, legal practitioners, security agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this award. I appreciate the organisers for finding me worthy of this recognition. I regard this award as a call to greater responsibility. It will further encourage me and my colleagues to remain committed to the principles of justice, fairness and the rule of law in the discharge of our responsibilities”, he said
The Attorney-General also acknowledged the seriousness of land-related disputes and the challenges posed by land grabbing, stressing the importance of strengthening the legal and institutional mechanisms for protecting lawful property ownership.
He assured residents that the Ministry of Justice would continue to work with relevant institutions and stakeholders in addressing legal challenges affecting the people of the state.
He thereafter dedicated the award to the staff of the Ministry of Justice and other stakeholders whose contributions, he said, had continued to support the administration of justice in Ogun State, just as he expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government for providing an enabling environment for the justice sector to discharge its responsibilities.
The event ended with renewed calls for continued collaboration among legal practitioners, government institutions and other stakeholders towards strengthening the rule of law and improving justice delivery in Ogun State.
