2027: Atiku Challenges Tinubu to Free, Fair and Credible Election - The Alternative News

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to face him and other opposition candidates in a free, fair and credible election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku urged the President to rely on the support of voters rather than allegedly using political influence and judicial processes to frustrate opposition parties.

In a statement issued on Friday, the former Vice-President accused the Tinubu administration of applying political pressure and exploiting court processes to weaken opposition parties, alleging that such actions were aimed at pushing Nigeria towards a one-party state.

Despite the recent court ruling affecting the ADC leadership, Atiku insisted that he remained in the presidential race and would appear on the ballot.

He warned Tinubu that judicial manoeuvres would not prevent Nigerians from deciding the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

According to him, the latest court ruling should not be mistaken for the wishes of Nigerians, stressing that citizens must be allowed to freely choose their leaders.

He said, “Let no one mistake the latest court ruling for the will of the Nigerian people.

“If those in power believe in their numbers and their record, let us meet at the polls in a free, fair and credible contest.”

Atiku also alleged attempts to compromise the voters' register through the use of AI-generated photographs, fake names and fictitious identities.

The former Vice-President further criticised the Tinubu administration over the country's economic challenges, citing fuel subsidy removal, the depreciation of the naira and rising food prices.

He also listed factory closures, youth migration, banditry and kidnapping among the challenges confronting the country.

Reaffirming his determination to contest the 2027 presidential election, Atiku declared that he would not abandon his political ambition despite the legal and political challenges.

He added, “I am in this race. I am not going anywhere. We will be on the ballot.”
