The Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OGSERC) has announced the formal commencement of its regulatory operations in Ogun State, alongside an order mandating the registration of all electricity licensees and operators in the state.
The commencement follows the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) order transferring regulatory oversight of the intrastate electricity market to Ogun State, as well as the Ogun State Electricity Law passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly in line with the Electricity Act 2023 (as amended).
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Chairman of OGSERC, Engr. Jide Onakoya, said the Commission is now fully empowered to regulate all electricity activities within Ogun State.
According to Engr. Onakoya “By this announcement, all licensees, operators, developers, and service providers in the electricity value chain in Ogun State are hereby required to register with OGSERC. This exercise, backed by law, is critical to ensuring safety, standardisation, consumer protection, and an enabling environment for investment in the State’s power sector.”
Under this order, the following categories are required to register: electricity generation, distribution, transmission, supply and trading companies; Mini-grid, off-grid, embedded generation and captive power operators; Electrical contractors, installers and service providers; IBEDC, Eko DisCo, Ikeja Electric and their subsidiary companies operating in Ogun State; and all industrial, commercial and private entities operating electricity undertakings.
Engr. Onakoya warned that operating any electricity business in Ogun State without due registration and licensing by OGSERC is illegal and contravenes the State Electricity Law.
He directed all affected operators to visit the Commission’s headquarters on the 5th and 6th floors, OPIC Tower Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta or its official e-mail ([email protected]) to commence registration within 30 days of this announcement.
The deadline for compliance is Tuesday, 2 December 2026. Failure to comply will attract sanctions as prescribed by law.
The Commission reassured residents and investors of its commitment to delivering a transparent, efficient and reliable electricity market that supports Ogun State’s position as Nigeria’s industrial hub.
