Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed his purported expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the announcement as baseless and unserious.
The PDP, at its ongoing national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, announced the expulsion of Wike; former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The motion for their expulsion was moved by a former National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, and was seconded by the Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, Hon. Samaila Burga.
However, Wike’s camp has rejected the declaration. Speaking to DAILY POST, the FCT Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Publicity and Communications, Lere Olayinka, mocked those behind the announcement, saying they were acting under the influence of “dirty December” excitement.
“They went to Ibadan to start dirty December in November. When people decide to start their own dirty December early, one can only ignore whatever comes out of their mouths. They gathered in Ibadan to do party, enjoy themselves, and intoxicated, they are free to say anything," Olayinka said.
Wike has not issued a personal statement, but his media aide’s response suggests that the minister does not consider the expulsion legitimate.
