POWER GENERATION: COMMISSIONER TASKS RELEVANT MDAS ON EFFECTIVE JOB DELIVERY

Determined to meet the hope and aspirations of rural dwellers on power supply, Ogun State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, said relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government in the power sector should ensure effective job delivery in their respective areas, to boost socio- economic activities in the state.

Mrs. Ilori-Oduntan brought this to the fore during a State Energy Working Group Stakeholders' meeting in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, pointing out that regular power supply was a major catalyst that could develop and attract more cottage industries to rural communities, towards enhancing locally made goods and curb rural-urban drift.

She disclosed that government was working assiduously to ensure a boost in power generation across the state, informing that installation of mini grids in Gbamugbamu, Ijebu East, as well as Olooji, Itebu and Manuwa in Ogun Waterside Local Governments had open up the communities to industrial development.

The Commissioner charged the people to support the present administration in improving the living standard of people at the grassroots.

Contributing, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Mr. Olufemi Omisanjo, represented by the Director of Electrical Services, Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services, Engr. Sunday Adelakun, said power generation had improved tremendously through provision of mini grids, revealing that arrangements were in top gear with seven private investors, willing to partner with the state government in electricity generation.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam, urged stakeholders to be proactive and key into government's energy programme, imploring the MDAs to work as a team to ensure efficient service delivery.

Present at the meeting were Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Finance, Environment, Women Affairs and Social Development, as well as representatives from other line ministries.
