Kano Auto Crash Claims Eleven Lives, Injured 16 people- The Alternative News

 


Kano State auto crash has claimed eleven lives, while sixteen others sustained injuries.

 The Kano Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, confirmed the incident through the Sector Public Education Officer FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command, CRC AA Labaran, said it occurred on 19th April, 2024, at approximately 15:45hrs local time. 

Labaran said that the incident took place at the Gaya Junction along the Kano–Maiduguri road and involved two vehicles: a Toyota hummer bus with registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet mini p/up with registration number KTG 501 YG.

He explained that preliminary investigations indicated that the probable cause of the crash was over speeding, resulting in loss of control.

“A total of twenty-eight individuals were involved in the crash, with eleven fatalities and sixteen injuries reported. One person was rescued unhurt from the wreckage,” he added.

Labaran further disclosed that the injured victims were swiftly transported to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony.

According to him, the Kano Sector Commander CC IS Abdullahi expressed sorrow over the incident and emphasized the importance of compliance with road safety rules and regulations .

Abdullahi warned drivers to refrain from committing traffic offenses such as speed violations and overloading of vehicles with passengers, animals, or goods.

He also advised commercial drivers to ensure installation of speed limit devices on their vehicles to avoid crashes resulting from speed limit violations.

"The FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command CC IS Abdullahi remains committed to ensuring the safety of road users and will continue to intensify efforts in enforcing traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the statement noted.
