According to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, two alleged drug traffickers were taken into custody during a search on a criminal hideaway located at Ring Road-3 in Uyo.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Police Spokesman, ASP Timfon John said that guns were also found during the Saturday raid.
John said Udeme Francis Daniel is a native of Iwor Etor in Etinan LGA of Akwa Ibom State, while Feziechukwu Kizito Okolie is from Abia-Omuma in Oru East LGA of Imo State.
One Nitro Air rifle with a detachable telescope, one SID Sauer American pistol, one Powerline Japanese pistol, one Phantom American pistol, two black bags holding two pistol magazines with ten rounds of live 9mm ammunition, one black pistol casing, two pairs of leather gloves, and three wraps of suspected cannabis sativa were among the items she said were recovered from the suspects.
John disclosed that the suspects are being held by the Command until a thorough investigation is conducted, and when the investigation is over, charges will be brought before the court.
In the same vein, the Akwa Ibom State Police command raided a criminal hideout in Afaha Offiong community, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area and arrested six.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Timfon John in Uyo revealed that the operatives acted on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara following intelligence.
She enumerated the names of the suspects to include: Kufre Godwin Okon, Uko Monday Edet, Cyril Micheal, Gabriel Effiong, Joseph Effiong Okon, and Udofia Emmanuel Udofia.
The PPRO, who also stated that suspects were allegedly involved in drug dealing, said two bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, substances suspected to be cocaine, and some concoctions were recovered.
She stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, adding that the ones arrested would be charged in court after investigations.
"Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Waheed Ayilara has reassured Akwa Ibomites of the command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements.
“He urged them to always report any suspicious movements or suspicious persons to the nearest police Station as this will help the Police cultivate and act on the information towards keeping the State safe and secured,” she said.
