An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has adjourned a land dispute case involving a former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Amos Adamu, and one Olusegun Odebiyi, to June 27, 2025, PUNCH ONLINE reports.
A case with suit no: HOI/14/2021 is before Justice G.A. Sunmonu at FiAT Court 2, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Counsel to the defendant, Taiwo Ajayi, has sought the sequel to the absence of her client in the court.
Ajayi submitted that she has just been informed that the principal witness would not be available at the court.
Countering his argument, counsel to the plaintiff, Oludare Akanbi, argued that the excuse given was not tenable as the date has since been fixed for further hearing.
He said she should also consider that he is not residing within Ibadan city.
Akanbi said he would not be opposed to the adjournment but “appealed to the Court to prevail on the defendant to stop his agents from destroying his client’s property and attacking his people.”
Akanbi added, “My Lord, you will remember that at the last adjournment, I drew the attention of the Court that the agents of the defendants have wreaked serious havoc as they are destroying my client’s property, and even the cash crops that are on that land.
“I want to appeal that everybody should maintain peace. That they should not go to the land and destroy anything on the land.”
He argued that it would do both parties good and save their time if they could maintain peace.
In his ruling, the presiding judge advised the two parties to maintain peace and that nobody should attack themselves on the land until the court decides.
He said, “I want the two parties to maintain peace. And this case is adjourned till June 27, 2025, for continuation of further hearing.”
