Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure an overwhelming 99.9% of the votes in the 2027 presidential election, predicting a landslide re-election victory for the Nigerian leader.
Akpabio made the bold forecast on Saturday during a grand reception in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, organized to welcome Governor Umo Eno into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Eno recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal leadership crises as his reason for leaving.
Addressing party members and dignitaries at the event, Akpabio expressed optimism about the future of the APC and praised both Tinubu and Eno as central figures in the party’s evolving strategy.
“I see you becoming the first re-elected governor in 2027,” Akpabio said of Eno.
“I see everything turning around for Umo Eno and Tinubu in 2027. President Tinubu will get 99.9% of the total votes.”
The statement comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC seeking to expand its reach in the South-South region—traditionally a PDP stronghold.
President Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election with 8.79 million votes, representing approximately 36.6% of the total votes cast, defeating PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi. The election result was contested in court, but ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court.
Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom and influential figure in the APC, framed Eno’s defection as a turning point for the party in the region and a sign of growing momentum ahead of 2027.
Although his 99.9% prediction is seen by some as hyperbole, it reflects the Senate President’s confidence in the APC’s electoral strength and his commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
