Tragedy struck late Friday night as suspected armed herdsmen launched a coordinated assault on the Yelewata community around 10:00 p.m., leaving numerous residents dead and at least 16 people severely injured.

In a tragic escalation, a response team made up of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was ambushed in Daudu while heading to the scene. The ambush claimed the lives of two soldiers and one Civil Defence officer, sparking outrage and grief across the region.

“These brave men paid the ultimate price in service to our people. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said a local source.

Survivors are currently receiving emergency treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi. Medical personnel have issued an urgent call for blood donations to help save the lives of those critically injured.

Residents, community leaders, and concerned Nigerians have expressed their shock, anger, and sorrow, calling for justice, better security, and a long-term solution to the herdsmen-related violence plaguing the region.

 “My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims, especially our fallen heroes in uniform,” said a local resident.
