Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Coordinator of the PDP Coalition (PDPCO), has asserted that a united opposition coalition is the only realistic strategy to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued over the weekend, Kalu warned that Nigeria is “in deep trouble” under the current administration, citing escalating insecurity, economic hardship, and hunger as evidence of national distress.
“The truth is that Nigeria is truly in trouble under this government. There is a spate of violent killings and economic dilapidation across the country,” Kalu said.
He blamed President Bola Tinubu’s government for failing to contain ongoing violence in Benue and Enugu States, accusing Fulani cattle breeders of perpetrating repeated, unprovoked attacks.
“Benue State is helplessly under the siege of Fulani cattle rustlers as it continues to suffer mindless attacks from these unrepentant killers,” he added.
Kalu, who also leads the ECK Foundation and is a 2027 senatorial aspirant for Abia North, criticized the Federal Government’s foreign borrowing, saying loan proceeds have not yielded meaningful infrastructure or social improvements.
“It is really infuriating that Nigerians are helplessly wretched while the government keeps borrowing to spend frivolously,” he said.
“So how then will the APC convince us that it is qualified to salvage Nigeria from poverty to a technologically advanced nation?”
He emphasized that only a strong coalition of opposition parties can rescue Nigeria from what he called a “governance collapse.”
“Like a seed planted in a farm, the coalition remains the only stake capable of erecting the stem of unseating APC in 2027,” Kalu declared.
His comments come amid growing opposition realignment talks and public discontent with prevailing economic and security conditions.
