Why I Won’t Join Coalition – Al-Mustapha - The Alternative News

Former presidential candidate and retired military officer, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has ruled out joining any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing ideological differences and a steadfast commitment to an independent political vision.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored in Bauchi on Saturday, Al-Mustapha said his decision stems not from political isolation, but from a deep conviction to uphold his principles and his resolve to "remake Nigeria great again."

> “There are clear ideological contrasts between my vision and that of the coalition. I am not alone in this struggle; you will soon see the strength of my support base,” he stated.

The former intelligence chief disclosed that his political movement is gaining ground, particularly at the grassroots level, with increasing support from Nigerians yearning for meaningful change.

Reflecting on his previous presidential bid, Al-Mustapha described it as a strategic move aimed at testing his influence and understanding the nation’s political terrain.

> “My participation in the last election was a deliberate move to test the waters and understand the dynamics. Now, the consultations I’ve had with key stakeholders are yielding encouraging results,” he noted.

Al-Mustapha also raised concerns about electoral irregularities in the 2023 elections, which he claimed were orchestrated by certain vested interests to suppress credible alternatives. He described the experience as a setback to democracy, but vowed to remain undeterred in his pursuit of justice and reform.

He reiterated his commitment to building a political platform that reflects the true aspirations of the Nigerian people, assuring supporters of a credible alternative in the 2027 polls.

> “We are building a platform that represents the true aspirations of Nigerians,” he asserted confidently.

Al-Mustapha has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressing optimism that the momentum behind his movement could lead to electoral victory.
