Iranian authorities have arrested 22 individuals in Qom province on allegations of spying for Israel, according to a report by the state-aligned Fars news agency. The suspects were accused of having links to Israeli intelligence, spreading misinformation, and supporting what Iran refers to as the "Zionist regime."
This follows earlier reports from Tasnim news agency stating that 24 individuals had been detained for espionage and for attempting to damage Iran’s image. Additionally, a European national was reportedly arrested for espionage, though details about their identity or arrest date remain undisclosed.
Iran frequently reports arrests related to alleged espionage, particularly involving Israel. In recent weeks, several convicted spies have been executed.
The Norway-based NGO Iran Human Rights estimates that at least 223 individuals have been arrested across Iran on similar charges, noting that the real number is likely higher.
