Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has officially resigned from his position.
Soneye, who made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday, said his decision was driven by the need to focus on family and personal responsibilities that now require his close attention.
“It has been a profound honour to serve both the company and our country,” Soneye wrote. “This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence.”
Soneye was appointed as NNPCL’s spokesperson in August 2021, playing a key role in managing the company’s public communications during a transformative period marked by reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
In his farewell note addressed to colleagues, Soneye expressed deep gratitude for their support, professionalism, and commitment in amplifying the NNPCL brand over the past 20 months. He praised the team’s contribution to building a “vibrant and effective communications presence” for Nigeria’s national energy company.
He further pledged continued support for the organization, saying: “I remain a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd wherever I go. I enjoin you, dear colleagues, to continue your robust, balanced, and constructive reportage in support of the company’s noble mission and strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.”
NNPCL has yet to officially announce a replacement for Soneye.
