JUST IN: Soldiers, Bandits Exchange Gunfire in Kaduna, Niger, Scores Feared Dead - The Alternative News

A deadly confrontation between Nigerian troops and armed bandits in parts of Kaduna and Niger States has resulted in the deaths of several combatants, including military personnel and dozens of bandits, the Nigerian Army confirmed on Wednesday.

In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Army Headquarters disclosed that the firefights occurred in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka communities in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The military said the bandits launched what it described as “unprovoked attacks” on the targeted areas before troops swiftly mobilized to repel the threats.

“In response to the attacks, land and air component troops launched several counter-attacks that eliminated scores of bandits in the encounters,” the statement read.

The Army, however, confirmed that the operation was not without casualties on the side of the security forces. “Sadly, some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles, while four wounded-in-action troops are currently receiving treatment for their gunshot wounds,” it added.

The exact number of casualties has yet to be officially confirmed, but military sources indicate that dozens of insurgents were neutralized during the operation.

As of press time, security operations were said to be ongoing in the affected areas, with reinforcements deployed to maintain control and prevent further incursions.

The Nigerian Army promised to provide additional updates as more details become available.
