Speculations Mount Over Possible Replacement of Taraba Deputy Governor Amid Prolonged Illness - The Alternative News

Strong indications from within the Taraba State House of Assembly suggest that preparations may be underway to replace Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali, who has reportedly been incapacitated by illness for over nine months.

Sources within both the legislature and executive arms of the state government disclosed that a consensus is forming around Alhaji Hamman Adama, the current Deputy Speaker of the House, as a possible successor. While no formal impeachment or succession proceedings have been initiated, insiders say the constitutional process for removal is under active consideration.

“The deputy governor has been bedridden for months,” said a senior Assembly member. “We can no longer afford to operate without a fully functional deputy in such a critical governance role.”

Despite the growing momentum within legislative circles, the state government has officially denied any such succession plans.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, described the reports as unfounded and speculative.

“No one has nominated anyone to be Deputy Governor to Dr. Agbu Kefas. Disregard any fake news,” Bello stated.

As of press time, no official communication has been made by the office of the Deputy Governor regarding his health status or the succession rumors. However, a senior official within his office privately acknowledged ongoing discussions about potentially relieving him of his duties due to his continued absence.

The situation remains fluid as political stakeholders weigh constitutional options in balancing governance demands with respect for health-related circumstances.
