Security operations by the Amotekun Corps in Ondo and Ogun States have led to the arrest of eight suspects involved in kidnapping, robbery, and theft, with the recovery of stolen items valued at over ₦300 million.
In Ondo State, Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye disclosed on Sunday in Akure that seven suspects were apprehended during recent operations targeting criminal syndicates. He noted that the suspects were involved in various crimes including kidnapping and the transportation of stolen electronics from Lagos to Ondo.
“More than celebrating the arrest of criminals, we are celebrating the recovery of life and property,” Adeleye said. “Our operations in the past week have reduced cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and cult-related activities.”
Among the seized goods were stolen electronics discovered when a suspect attempted to repackage them during a stop for fuel. Adeleye revealed the items would be returned to their rightful owner, an electronics dealer in Ondo—once a court order is secured.
On kidnapping, Adeleye reported the successful rescue of two victims abducted in Ita Ogbolu, Akure North LGA, after 96 hours in captivity. The kidnappers had demanded a ₦50 million ransom, but the victims were rescued without any payment.
“We advise residents not to pay ransom. Most kidnap cases in the last two months have been resolved without ransom payments,” Adeleye emphasized.
Meanwhile, in Ogun State, Amotekun operatives arrested 25-year-old Igwe Chijoke for a violent robbery involving the attack of a motorcyclist and passenger using machetes and an axe along the Itanrin–Ososa road in Odogbolu LGA.
According to Deputy Corps Commander Col. Tajudeen Bakare, the suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee with the stolen motorcycle. He allegedly confessed to committing the crime with three accomplices, who are still at large.
The injured victim was taken to Oore-Ofe El-Shadai Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where he is currently receiving treatment. The suspect and the recovered motorcycle have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
“We reassure the public that the Amotekun Corps remains committed to maintaining peace and security across Ogun State,” Bakare added.
Authorities in both states are urging the public to report suspicious activity and assist in tracking down fleeing criminals.
