The National Assembly has suspended all legislative activities in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London clinic after a prolonged illness.

This decision was announced on Monday in a statement issued by Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk to the National Assembly.

“I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025,” the statement read.

Lawmakers have been urged to adjust their schedules to ensure full participation in the burial rites of the late former president.

The leadership of both chambers extended condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria, the Government and people of Katsina State, as well as to President Buhari’s family, including his wives, children, and extended relatives.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity,” the statement added.

“May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.”
