Preparations are in top gear for the release of the remains of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, as final paperwork is being completed in London to hand over his body to the Nigerian government.
Buhari, who had been battling an undisclosed illness, died on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m. in a London clinic.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior Nigerian government officials are currently in London to oversee the repatriation process and facilitate the necessary diplomatic and administrative procedures.
According to Channels Television, Shettima and the delegation are actively coordinating the final documentation required for the release of Buhari’s remains.
Meanwhile, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has confirmed that Buhari’s body is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday by 12:00 p.m., and he will be buried at 2:00 p.m. in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
The federal and Katsina State governments have both declared periods of mourning to honour the late president, with flags flying at half-mast and public activities scaled back.
