David Mark Resigns from PDP, Joins Opposition Coalition - The Alternative News

Former Senate President David Mark has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his long-standing association with the party he helped to establish. His decision, contained in a resignation letter dated June 27, follows ongoing leadership crises within the PDP.

In the letter addressed to the party’s leadership in Otukpo Ward 1, Benue State, Mark cited irreconcilable internal divisions and persistent leadership failure as the primary reasons for his exit.

> “The irreconcilable differences in the PDP have subjected the party to public ridicule and reduced it to a shadow of its former self,” Mark wrote.

Mark, who remained loyal to the PDP even during its post-2015 struggles, emphasized that despite his efforts to rebuild the party, internal crises had made it impossible to continue.

The resignation comes amid reports of Mark’s appointment as one of the interim leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), now part of a broader coalition-backed opposition movement seeking to challenge the ruling establishment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

> “After wide consultations with my family, friends, and political associates, I have resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria,” he stated.

Mark’s departure is seen as a significant blow to the PDP, as he remains one of the most respected elder statesmen within the party's ranks.
