Tragedy struck Kwallajiya village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday as suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa gang launched a deadly attack, killing no fewer than 15 residents.

According to local sources, the assailants stormed the village in the afternoon, unleashing terror on the unsuspecting community. All the victims were reportedly buried the same evening in accordance with Islamic rites.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks, alleging that the criminals often benefit from intelligence provided by some villagers.

“These atrocities continue because some informants within the communities leak information to the bandits,” the source said. “It is very important that residents intensify cooperation with security agencies to combat these evil men.”

Efforts to reach the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, for an official response were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
