Diogo Jota has died following a car crash in Spain, according to Spanish and Portuguese media outlets.

The 28-year-old was reportedly travelling in a car with his brother Andre when the vehicle came off of the road.

The news comes just 10 days after the Liverpool forward married his long-term girlfriend.

The Portuguese national had played for the club since 2020, when he made the move from Wolverhampton.

He played a pivotal role in Liverpool's 2024-25 Premier League winning season, and on 8 June helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League.

Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro described Jota's death as "tragic" and extended his condolences to the family.

In a social post on X, he said: "The news of the death of Diogo Jota, an athlete who greatly honored Portugal's name, and his brother is unexpected and tragic.

"I extend my deepest condolences to their family. It is a sad day for football and for national and international sports."
