JUST IN: Opposition Coalition Unveiling Moved to Shehu Yar’Adua Centre After Hotel Withdrawal - The Alternative News

The official unveiling of the 2027 opposition coalition platform has been relocated to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja following the sudden cancellation of the initial venue booking by Wells Carlton Hotel.

This was confirmed in an official venue change notice issued by Nkem Ukandu, Deputy National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party being adopted as the coalition’s political platform for the upcoming election.

“The coalition will today, Wednesday, 2nd July 2025, officially unveil our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as the party of the coalition,” the notice read.

The event is now scheduled to hold at:

Venue: Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja

Time: 2:00 PM

Date: Wednesday, 2nd July 2025

Members of the ADC’s National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), Board of Trustees (BOT), and other key stakeholders have been invited to attend the self-sponsored event.

Although the statement did not give reasons for the abrupt change, party insiders and political analysts have pointed to possible political interference.

Sources allege that the Wells Carlton Hotel, which reportedly hosted Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, after his appointment in 2023, may have been influenced to withdraw its hosting rights under political pressure.

The coalition, comprising prominent figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai—intends to present a unified front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

The decision to adopt ADC as the coalition’s platform has already sparked internal friction, with a faction of the party rejecting the move, claiming it was made without broad consultation.

Despite the venue controversy and party tension, today's event is expected to proceed as planned, with heightened attention from political observers nationwide.
