The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen responsible for the killing of 10 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogboji, Orumba-South Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Tuesday, July 2, confirmed that the victims were attacked by armed assailants who arrived in two SUVs and opened fire on a gathering of people without provocation on the evening of June 30.

 “The Police Command in Anambra has condemned the indiscriminate shooting incident… The Command shall hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Ikenga stated.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where 10 were confirmed dead. Their bodies have since been deposited in the morgue.

Police and other security agencies have taken control of the area as investigations and intelligence gathering are underway to identify and apprehend those behind what has been described as a heinous and senseless crime.
