Former lawmaker and long-time ally of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Farouk Aliyu, has countered claims made by ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, over the role of President Bola Tinubu in Buhari’s 2015 electoral victory.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday, Aliyu dismissed Mustapha’s assertion that Tinubu did not make Buhari president, calling the statement inaccurate and an attempt to rewrite history.

 “My senior brother, Boss Mustapha, certainly got it wrong. I can’t even remember where he was at that time,

Many of these Buhari converts… now want to deconstruct history," Aliyu said.

Aliyu emphasized that Buhari’s consistent 12 million votes had never secured a win until the 2015 merger with Tinubu and the support he mobilized in the South-West.

He further recounted how he personally served as Buhari’s returning officer during the APC presidential primary in Lagos and witnessed Tinubu’s instrumental backing firsthand.

Addressing suggestions that Buhari failed to reciprocate Tinubu’s 2015 support ahead of the 2023 elections, Aliyu strongly disagreed, asserting:

 “If Muhammadu Buhari did not want APC to win the election, he would have done several things to ensure that they don’t win.”

His comments came in response to remarks by Mustapha at a book launch in Abuja, where the former SGF insisted that Buhari’s long-standing support base was the key factor in his eventual rise to the presidency.
