Farouk Aliyu, a former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will do everything within its power to ensure that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition forces do not succeed in unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Aliyu claimed that certain individuals within the opposition are working with a deliberate script aimed at preventing President Tinubu from securing a second term in office.
“Certain people are going after some script to make sure APC does not see the light of day or that Tinubu does not win his re-election. Sadly, we will not allow that to happen, because that’s politics,” he said.
Aliyu, who played a key role during the 2015 coalition that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan, said opposition and ruling party members are often politically connected behind the scenes.
“We used to be one family, one party, one people. You remember when all those people now out of the APC, we all ganged up to bring down Goodluck Jonathan. That’s what we did together,” he recalled.
He stressed that while the political elites may appear divided, they are often united by common interests, pointing out that ordinary Nigerians are the ones who suffer and even lose their lives because of political rivalries.
“One can hardly find the elites fighting each other. Several Nigerians kill themselves massively because of highly placed politicians. Meanwhile, members of the ruling party and the opposition are often one and the same. That’s the game of politics,” he added.
Aliyu’s comments come amid rising political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with speculation that opposition figures may form a new coalition to challenge the APC’s dominance.
