Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned from his position following the submission of an investigative report that found him culpable in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu.
Namadi’s resignation was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa.
According to the statement, Namadi cited public interest and the sensitive nature of the allegations as reasons for stepping down.
“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step, painful as it may be,”
“While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built," Namadi said.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his commitment to good governance and responsible leadership.
“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state,” he added.
The governor, through his media aide, confirmed he had accepted the resignation, wishing Namadi success in his future endeavours.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated his administration’s unwavering stance on justice, discipline, and the fight against drug-related crimes and social vices,” the statement read.
He emphasized that political appointees must act with caution on sensitive matters and seek clearance before engaging in issues of public interest.
This development comes after a fact-finding committee submitted its report to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, earlier in the week. The report, presented by the committee’s chairman and Special Adviser on Justice, Aminu Hussain, concluded that Namadi acted negligently by standing as surety for the drug suspect without conducting proper due diligence.
The case has drawn wide public attention in the state, especially given the government’s tough stance on drug abuse and related crimes.
