The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday arrested and interrogated Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and ally of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, over alleged fraudulent withdrawals totaling ₦189 billion, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.
Tambuwal, who governed Sokoto from 2015 to 2023, arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:30 a.m. to face questioning.
According to sources within the anti-graft agency, the investigation concerns possible violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The alleged transactions reportedly occurred during Tambuwal’s tenure as governor. While EFCC officials have yet to issue a formal statement, political observers note that the probe comes amid increased scrutiny of prominent opposition figures.
Tambuwal, currently representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, has not publicly responded to the allegations as of press time.
