I Told Peter Obi to Return to PDP – Segun Sowunmi - The Alternative News

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Segun Sowunmi, has said the opposition party owes the South-East a political debt, urging Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return to the PDP.

Speaking on Nigeria Info 99.3 FM on Wednesday, Sowunmi recalled advising Obi months ago to rejoin the PDP in light of the party’s recent decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

“Peter is someone who doesn’t listen. I told him more than three, four months ago that the time now is to return because the PDP owes the South-East a debt,” he said.

According to him, the PDP has given its presidential ticket to every other region except the Igbos, and Obi has already demonstrated the capacity to lead.

He, however, criticised Obi’s alleged reluctance to participate in party primaries, saying: “Anybody that doesn’t want to do primaries is looking for somebody to cheat on his behalf. Primaries are the internal democracy of parties.”

Sowunmi also faulted Obi’s handling of the Labour Party, claiming he failed to manage the platform effectively.

“Nigeria cannot be waiting for Peter. If Peter can’t be President as an Igbo person, one day we will find an Igbo person,” he added.
