The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the massacre of worshippers and villagers in Malumfashi, Katsina State, describing it as evidence of Nigeria’s collapsing security system.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said over 140 Nigerians have been killed in Katsina and Zamfara within two months, with entire villages ransacked and dozens abducted.
ADC criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for “jet-setting across the world” instead of addressing worsening insecurity, stressing that “diplomacy abroad is meaningless if safety and security at home cannot be guaranteed.” The party also noted the President’s failure to personally console victims’ families.
It called for the immediate declaration of a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara, and a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s national security architecture, citing the Chief of Defence Staff’s call for citizens to learn self-defence as proof of government failure.
The party equally slammed PDP governors for holding a political meeting in Zamfara just days after the killings, branding it “insensitive” and proof that both APC and PDP “care more about politics than the people’s suffering.”
