2027: Group Urges Jonathan to Contest Presidency, Calls Him Nigeria’s “Rescue Mission” - The Alternative News

A pro-Jonathan pressure group, Bring Back Our Goodluck, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to stage a political comeback and contest the 2027 presidential election, saying Nigerians were “misled in 2015” into voting out his government.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano, the group’s National Coordinator, Dr. Grema Kyari, described Jonathan as the “surest path to rescue Nigeria” from hunger, insecurity, and deepening national divisions under the APC-led government.

Kyari argued that Jonathan’s administration represented Nigeria’s last period of economic stability, citing affordable fuel, food prices, and youth empowerment programmes such as YouWin! and SURE-P.

“Under Jonathan, a bag of rice sold for about N7,800; today it costs between N80,000 and N100,000,” Kyari lamented.

The group contrasted Jonathan’s record with what it called “biting hardship” under APC, blaming the party’s leaders, including the late Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, and Bisi Akande for “deceitful promises.”

Kyari also praised Jonathan as a unifying leader who appointed across ethnic and religious divides, saying only he could heal Nigeria’s divisions.

The group urged other opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others, to set aside ambition and back Jonathan as a consensus candidate in 2027, describing the election as a “rescue mission.”

The campaign, which began in the Northeast, has now moved to the Northwest, which Kyari called “the heartbeat of commerce and political influence in Northern Nigeria.”

He ended with a direct appeal:
“In 2015, you chose peace over power. In 2027, Nigeria needs you to choose the people again. Let us chase out bad luck, poverty, and hunger. Let us bring back our Goodluck.”
