JUST IN: Train Compartment Detaches Mid-Motion at Ladipo, Sparks Panic Along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway - The Alternative News

Panic erupted on Thursday morning after a train compartment detached while in motion at the Ladipo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, causing a temporary disruption of movement and sparking alarm among commuters.

The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m., involving a train traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa in Lagos State.

According to eyewitnesses, the rear compartment of the train suddenly broke away from the moving coaches, prompting fear and confusion among passengers and bystanders.

“All the passengers were taken aback, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” said Oloruntoba Omodele, who witnessed the incident.

The Ladipo axis, notorious for heavy traffic congestion, was further thrown into chaos as the incident caused a backlog of vehicles and disrupted commercial activity for over 30 minutes.

Emergency responders were reportedly swift to arrive at the scene, helping to control the situation and ease the traffic gridlock that followed.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the detachment. However, safety advocates and concerned citizens are calling for a thorough investigation and more stringent maintenance of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure, especially in high-traffic urban corridors like Lagos.

The incident comes amid growing scrutiny of transportation infrastructure nationwide, with stakeholders urging federal and state agencies to prioritize rail safety and operational standards.
