The Presidency has thrown its weight behind the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the declaration of Abdullahi Bashir Haske, son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as wanted.
The EFCC alleged that Haske, founder of AA & R Investment Group, is under investigation for criminal conspiracy and money laundering. According to the agency, he violated bail conditions and repeatedly ignored summons.
Reacting, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, condemned the move, describing it as political persecution.
However, the Presidency dismissed the claim. Presidential media adviser, Sunday Dare, insisted that the EFCC was operating strictly within its constitutional mandate.
“There is no harassment or victimisation here, only the independent and lawful operation of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions. No one is above the law,” Dare stated.
He added that the administration remained committed to due process and the rule of law, stressing that attempts to politicise the matter were “grasping at straws.”
It was gathered that Haske had been under investigation for several months but went into hiding after securing bail.
