President Bola Tinubu arrived in Tokyo, Japan, in the early hours of Monday for a series of official engagements ahead of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).
The President’s aircraft touched down at Haneda Airport around 1 a.m., where he was received by Japan’s Ambassador in charge of TICAD, Hideo Matsubara, according to the State House.
TICAD9 will hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, bringing together African leaders, Japanese officials, and international partners to discuss cooperation on development, trade, and investment.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier announced that, in addition to attending plenary sessions, the President will hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies with existing or prospective investments in Nigeria.
Following the Japan trip, President Tinubu is expected to proceed to Brasília, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
