The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has listed several of its governors as possible contenders for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the PDP has “capable and performing governors” who can challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He named Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, and Diri Douye of Bayelsa as “highly qualified” to fly the party’s flag.
The announcement comes ahead of the PDP’s national elective convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The party’s National Executive Council (NEC), at its 100th meeting, confirmed the date and venue and agreed to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a decision seen as favouring Makinde.
Ologunagba described the PDP as “the next natural alternative to the APC,” adding that Nigerians are yearning for a return to the party’s governance.
“We are ready for our national convention. The party remains the rallying point for Nigerians. We are open to discussions and we are coming out stronger,” he said.
He warned that “anti-party activities will no longer be condoned” and urged members to obey the party’s constitution.
The PDP has recently faced internal disputes over the position of national secretary and the date of its NEC meeting.
