FG Unveils New Curriculum for JSS, SSS Students - The Alternative News

The Federal Government has unveiled a new school curriculum for Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) students, which will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

The full list of subjects was circulated on Wednesday by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who shared details via his X handle (formerly Twitter). According to him, the curriculum, unveiled on Sunday, will introduce digital literacy,
programming, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship as part of compulsory subjects.

At the JSS level, students will be introduced to basic coding, robotics, and digital tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Entrepreneurship, civics, and advanced oral communication skills will also be compulsory.

For SSS students, the curriculum expands into advanced programming (Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS), data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital entrepreneurship. Students will also engage in research and project work, culminating in a final-year project with data analysis, presentation, and defense.

Other highlights include stronger emphasis on mathematics and applied sciences, public speaking and journalism, global history and philosophy, and options for multiple international languages (French, Arabic, and Chinese). Creative arts, health education, and sports remain integral at both levels.

The Federal Government said the reform is aimed at equipping Nigerian students with 21st-century skills, improving competitiveness in global education, and bridging the gap between academic learning and the digital economy.
