The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has urged Nigerians to view taxes as a foundation for national development rather than as a burden. At a sensitization programme in Kaduna, FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, represented by Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, stressed that taxes fund essential services like roads, schools, hospitals, and security.

He emphasized that voluntary compliance, built on trust and transparency, is key to sustainable revenue and reduced enforcement costs. The media, he noted, plays a critical role in educating citizens, simplifying tax issues, and holding leaders accountable to boost public confidence.

In his presentation, Dr. Mohammed Adamu highlighted that voluntary compliance, declaring income, filing returns, and paying taxes willingly, fosters patriotism, strengthens investor confidence, and ensures steady development. He identified fairness, accountability, and taxpayer education as drivers of compliance, praising FIRS initiatives like the TaxPro Max platform and amnesty programmes.
